2023-01-06 Agricultural field major training “Mochi pounding work”

We had the opportunity to observe the practical training of the "Agricultural Field Major Training" class for second-year students in the Department of Department of Biological Production Faculty of Agriculture
In this class, students majoring in the "Rice Paddy Course" and the "Vegetable Course" make "Noshi-mochi" every year.
The glutinous rice was carefully grown in the rice fields of FM Honmachi by students in the rice paddy course.

First, put the sticky rice in the large steamer shown in the second and third photos and steam it.

The aroma of rice rising from the steamer makes you hungry.
It's cold inside, so the inside of the room is white with steam!
Everyone is doing their best!

The steamed sticky rice is put into a mochi kneading machine and made into mochi.

Those are photos 4-6.

The mochi kneading machine used in TUAT has two stages, so it becomes a mochi with a firmness like a mochi with a pestle.

One measures the finished mochi, puts it in a bag, and stretches it out.
Finally, when it passes through the machine, a beautiful Noshi-mochi is completed.

The rice cakes carefully made by the students look so delicious!
